MetaSystems Hard & Software GmbH
Metafer is a platform software designed to control standard microscopes and related hardware, enabling slide scanning, digital image acquisition, image processing, and measurement of key features. It combines automation, precision, and scalability for modern laboratories, managing contrast modes, objectives, and filters while intelligent autofocusing ensures consistently sharp images.
Flexible and scalable, Metafer supports high-throughput operation with options such as the SlideFeeder x80 for up to 800 slides, an automatic oil dispenser for seamless magnification changes, and barcode integration. Results are presented in a clear gallery with linked slide coordinates for fast navigation, while measurement data can be viewed directly or analyzed through intuitive charts.
With the Neon module, users can organize images and findings—including data from Ikaros and third-party systems—compile reports, and manage complete workflows. Customization Packages further extend flexibility: MetaSystems application specialists work closely with each lab to configure Metafer according to specific needs, accelerating implementation and ensuring efficient routine use.
Metafer 4.4 and Ikaros 7.0 are classified in the European Union as in vitro diagnostic Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) Class A under IVDR (EU) 2017/746 and carry the CE mark unless otherwise specified. MetaSystems products are used worldwide and must be operated in accordance with their intended use and applicable regional regulations.
Neon 2.0 is classified as an accessory for in vitro diagnostic medical devices (IVD) in the European Union in accordance with the In Vitro Diagnostics Regulation (EU) 2017/746.
MetaSystems software includes image processing tools, such as machine and deep learning algorithms for pattern recognition. Results generated by these features are preliminary suggestions and must always be reviewed and validated by qualified experts.
Customization Packages are based on workflows successfully implemented in other laboratories using standard Metafer functionality. While MetaSystems specialists support configuration based on this experience, system performance depends on slide quality and user expertise. Validation for clinical use remains the sole responsibility of the customer laboratory.
